CURRENT AND UPCOMING PROJECTS

RELIGION, SPIRITUALITY AND THE ARTS 2019

(My work is moving into 3D!)

For the past six months, I've been part of IUPUI's Arts & Humanities Institute's Religion, Spirituality and the Arts Seminar. Led by Rabbi Sandi Sasso and four other top-notch faculty who are expert in theology and the arts, we explored the story of the destruction of the cities of Sodom & Gomorrah through the eyes of Lot's Wife. My piece in the show, It Was my Turn, is my first serious foray into a more sculptural approach to mixed media on paper.

#ANTIBODY, AN EMERGING SERIES

Dreaming into the Pandemic

These pieces, created since the start of the Pandemic, are dreams on the scale of antibodies that attempt to answer the question, “What is the experience of the antibodies as they confront the CoVid19 virus?”

ABOUT TERESA VAZQUEZ

Art & Dream Midwifery  *  Birthing our Mythic, Creative Stories

Personal engagement with my dreams is at the core of my artistic and creative renaissance. In turn, assisting the birth of dreams & dreamers goes hand in hand with my artistic practice.

In my work as a Dream Midwife, I have offered Active Dreaming workshops at multiple venues including the Women of Spirit Retreat in Nashville, IN, Camp Chesterfield in Chesterfield, IN, the Elderberry Treehouse in Fort Wayne, IN, the 2nd Floor Rear Festival of Alternative Art Spaces in Chicago, and the Suwanee Hulaween festival in Live Oak, FL.

My current body of visual art evokes the scenes, feeling tones, characters and narratives of dreams in a variety of two-dimensional media and collage.

Historically, my artistic practice has focused on multimedia approaches to the word in its various forms, realized through spoken and written words, sound, visual imagery, installation and performance art.

In addition to creating visual art, I write nonfiction and poetry. I have performed poetry in many notable venues throughout the Midwest, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Green Mill and the Guild Complex in Chicago, University of Michigan, Goshen College and IPFW in Indiana. My poems were included in the anthology, Between the Heart and the Land: Latina Poets in the Midwest, and in 2000, I released an audio Chapbook, entitled A Woman Loving, with funds from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs.

I hold an MFA in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing from Oberlin College. I am also a student and teacher of Robert Moss's Active Dreaming techniques.

I have known and admired Teresa Vazquez as a passionate and dedicated teacher and artist with the ability to reach and inspire many diverse communities and bring them together. She is a natural communicator and storyteller with a remarkable gift for helping people to claim their own voice, release the artist within and identify and manifest their life visions...Her care for and commitment to others is unstinting.

- Robert Moss, New York Times bestselling author and founder of the Robert Moss School of Active Dreaming

PERSONAL CONSULTATIONS

Difficult dreams or highly personal matters that affect dreams (like health matters, trauma, grief and nightmares) are at times best dealt with privately and in confidence. If you are challenged with such dreams, I can guide you in practices that can help shift dream experiences and reveal valuable insights.

I practice techniques of meditation, Active Dreaming, art-making, storytelling and drum-led shamanic journeying  to assist you in receiving the messages your dreams have to offer and taking actions that can facilitate relief.

Contact me to schedule a personal consultation.

DREAM CIRCLES

The Indianapolis Active Dreaming Circle meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7:00 pm at Studio Alchemy, 4201 Millersville Rd., 2nd floor. Our Dream Circle primarily focuses on dream-sharing using Robert Moss's Lightning Dreamwork. Sharing our dreams puts us in touch with the secret wishes of our souls, and dream-sharing knits community and has the power to transform our society in profound ways.

Are you interested in initiating a dream circle in your area? I am happy to help you get started.
